Eagles Wings Community Outreach Center is sponsoring an E-waste cleanup day on Saturday.
The event, co-hosted by the group Mentoring Today for Tomorrow, takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Eagles Wings, 1201 North A Street in Perris and is free to City residents and businesses.

Residents are encouraged to scour their basements and garages for broken and discarded computer monitors, televisions, printers, copiers, fax machines and home-entertainment systems. Recent studies have indicated that up to 35 million pounds of so-called “e-waste” remains in California homes and businesses.

Event organizers say it’s important to dispose of e-waste properly, since it is one of the fastest-growing segments of America’s discards. Estimates are that more than half the households in the U.S. have some sort of unused electronic products that could end up in landfills. Cleanups like the one Saturday are designed to help reduce illegal dumping while disposing of potentially toxic materials.
