Now the Christmas season can begin.

That was the consensus of the Perris residents who gathered Saturday at the City Senior Center for the annual “Breakfast with Santa.”

There was plenty to eat and of course pictures of children with Old St. Nick. But to the 100 people who took advantage of the food and photos, the event signified something greater. It means Christmas is just around the corner and it’s time to commence the celebration.

“This is the day that really starts our Christmas celebration,” said Alison Grayson, who came to the breakfast with her children, Wyatt, 8; Riley, 6 and Ella Kay, 4. “This is what brings our community together—Santa at Christmas with all the kids. This is a big family event for us. The City makes it affordable and easy. Perris is a great place to live. We’re glad to live here and watch it grow.”

Grayson said her family has been coming to the annual Breakfast with Santa for five years.

“The kids look forward to it,” she said.

City Councilwoman Joanne Evans helped serve the bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, coffee and hot chocolate. She helped provide Christmas to many children while working for the state fire department before retiring.

“Now I can help out in my own home City,” she said. “Seeing the kids see Santa takes me back to when I was a kid. It’s great.”

Stephany and Tim Poseley came to the Breakfast with Santa with their children, Scott, 10 and Shannon, 3, along with their Scott’s friend, Eduardo Rodriguez. The kids were interested in getting Wiis, Xboxes, Nintendo DSs, Game Boys and other electronic gadgets.

“This is so cool,” Stephany Poseley said. “The City is doing something for the community. This is great family time.”

Tim Poseley echoed those sentiments.

“This event shows the City cares about its people,” he said.
