The City’s renovations to the tennis courts at Bob Foss Park are coming up aces.

Since the upgrades were completed about a month ago, tennis players casual and serious have taken to the courts to bash balls back and forth over the new nets.

Streams of enthusiasts use the courts day and night and they give the improvements their unqualified endorsement.

Jason Posadas, 30, and Alex Apellanes, 20, both loved the upgrades.

“It looks very appealing,” Posadas said. “Everything looks brand new! It’s nice to know there are well-lighted tennis courts in Perris.”

The renovations included new fence posts and fencing, new windscreens, new light fixtures, a new paint job and access to the disabled. Cracks in the pavement were repaired. The improvements bring the Bob Foss courts up to International Tennis Federation standards. The ITF is the governing body for world tennis.

Cost of the new courts ran about $20,000. Funds to pay for the improvements came from money specifically set aside for that purpose and not from the City’s general fund.

Apellanes could find only one problem with the new courts.

“We’ll be here, but so will everybody else,” he said. “But it’s great to have such a wonderful location so close to home.”

Mayor Daryl Busch calls the tennis courts a little-known gem in Perris. City Councilman Mark Yarbrough said the beautification resulted from Perris making great use of existing funds “to improve the lives of our residents.”
