Perris Mayor Daryl Busch will serve as honorary Chairman of the Annual March for Babies Relay, the City’s yearly commitment to raising money to ensure all newborns enter the world happy and happy.

The March for Babies takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at Foss Field Park, on the grounds of the Perris City Hall campus.

The nine-hour event represents one hour for every month of a normal pregnancy.

Last year’s March for Babies was extremely successful, said Perris Mayor Pro-Tem Rita Rogers, who works as a division chair for the March of Dimes. The event raised $18,000, the most of any March for Babies in California.

Rogers said the upcoming fund-raiser is a chance for every City resident to support neo-natal care.

The March of Dimes helps moms have full-term pregnancies and deliver healthy babies.  If something goes wrong, March of Dimes offers information and comfort to families, she said.  The organization funds research into the causes of early childbirth and develops cures for neo-natal diseases and conditions.

March of Dimes has been helping babies for over 70 years and continues to build on its successes through programs of education, research and advocacy.

“It is a time when the Perris community is empowered with the knowledge of how they give every baby a healthy start by raising public awareness about health before, during and after pregnancy,” Rogers said.

“It is an opportunity to learn about the March of Dimes, and how March of Dimes educates moms, families, health care professionals, and youth while raising funds to support programs, advocacy, and research. It’s a vital event.

There is nothing worse in life than the loss of a baby.”

City officials are joining March of Dimes representatives in encouraging residents to participate in the October fund-raiser.

Organizers are looking for relay teams consisting of 5 to 15 members who will march, walk or run around Foss Field for the entire length of the fund-raiser.

“This is a very important thing to do,” Busch said. “Our goal is to make sure that every baby is born with all the advantages to succeed in life. We had a spectacular event last year and we are anticipating a big fund-raiser again this year.”
