Bikers Prepare for Tour de Perris

Excitement continues building as the date approaches for the City of Perris’ historic 100-mile bicycle ride.

So far, nearly 200 cycling enthusiasts from all over the Golden State have signed up to take part in the 100-mile Tour De Perris bike ride, which is part of the City’s Centennial celebration.

And event organizers expect another 100 to sign up by the time the race leaves City Hall at 7 a.m. on October 1.

Riders will head out from the beautiful Perris City Campus on a long and winding journey through Murrieta, Temecula’s Wine County and the San Jacinto Valley before returning to Perris.

It’s a route that will challenge even the most experienced cyclists.
Perris City workers Arturo Cervantes and Juan Lemus are among the hard-core riders training for the big day. They are among a contingent of Perris employees riding up to 100 miles each week to get ready for the big event.

“A city gets to celebrate it centennial only once and I am proud to be taking part in an event that highlights Perris’ past, present and future,” Cervantes said. “I am excited to be riding in the Tour de Perris. I know it will be a great event.”
Lemus said the Tour De Perris will be his first 100-mile bicycle ride.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “I’ve been training and it’s going to be fun.”
In addition to the Tour De Perris, shorter bicycle rides will be available for those cyclists wanting a less strenuous workout.

All families and cycling enthusiasts are welcome to join the City of Perris to celebrate the Centennial. Family activities music, food and raffles also are part of the day’s events.
