“Have a Jolly Ole Christmas” is the theme of the City of Perris’ 24th annual holiday parade set for Dec. 8.

The annual celebration includes floats, marching bands, the appearance of the Perris Mounted Posse and civic groups like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. The parade will be led once again by Taj, an elephant from the Perris-based Have Trunk Will Travel.

“The City of Perris welcomes residents and visitors who want to kick off the holiday season with a great event,” said Veronica Arana, who is coordinating the parade for the City. “It’s going to be a great time for everybody, with lots of color, pageantry and holiday spirit.”

Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. from Fourth and D Streets. From there, the parade travels north to Perris City Hall. Afterwards, prizes will be awarded for the top entries in several categories, including floats, marching bands and classic vehicles.

Photos with Santa also will be available at the Bob Glass Gym.

Perris Mayor Daryl Busch said people who attend the parade are in for a one-of-a-kind experience.

“We are the only community that offers a parade with an elephant!” he said. “Our Christmas parade is truly a special day. We believe the community deserves it. People always turn out and it is always a wonderful event.”

Besides the City of Perris, the community’s Christmas Parade and the Perris Valley Chamber of Commerce are the official parade sponsors.
