An 8-mile bicycle ride with Mayor Pro-Tem Mark Yarbrough marks the first of four increasingly challenging training events prior to the annual Tour de Perris on Oct. 5.

Yarbrough will lead the pack when it takes off Sept. 7 from Lot 11 at the Lake Perris State Recreation Area. The route takes bicyclists around scenic Lake Perris to near Bernasconi Road before returning to the starting line. Perris City staff will be on hand to provide drinks and support for the riders.

The ride begins at 9 a.m. Perris officials say interested cyclists should be in the starting area about 30 minutes earlier. Admission to the Lake Perris State Recreation Area is free for riders, who must wear a helmet to participate.

After the ride, Perris officials will raffle off a variety of prizes, including two bicycles.

The ride with the Mayor Pro-Tem is the first training ride for the third annual Tour de Perris. Other training rides will take place Sept. 14, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28 and will leave at 8 a.m. from Perris City Hall. Those rides will increase to 25-miles, 40-miles and 60-miles.
