The City of Perris kicks off its holiday season Friday, Dec. 6 when Mayor Daryl Busch and other elected officials throw the switch that lights the community’s Christmas Tree.

The 26th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony also includes musical performances by school and youth choirs singing holiday carols and an appearance by Old St. Nick himself.

The festivities begin at 6 p.m. at Perris City Hall, 101 North D Street. Complimentary snacks will be served at the conclusion of the event. Food and drinks will be available purchase during the Tree Lighting Ceremony. Photos with Santa Claus can be purchased for $3 or people can use their own cameras to grab their own.

Mayor Busch noted that the Tree Lighting Ceremony has grown significantly in recent years and now draws more than 1,000 people to City Hall.

“It’s the official start of the holiday season,” he said. “I enjoy it because the people enjoy it and it puts you in the holiday mood.”

Perris Mayor Pro-Tem Mark Yarbrough said events like the Tree Lighting Ceremony demonstrate that the City retains the down-home feeling that residents enjoy at no cost.

“It’s a great opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit,” Yarbrough said. “We continue to display the small-town charm that makes the City of Perris a great place to live and work.”
