A contingent of elected and staff officials from Riverside visited Perris to view the City’s community garden project June 9 and left with plenty of accolades and appreciation for what they witnessed. Ward 4 City Councilman Paul Davis said Riverside plans to begin its own community garden and is seeking input and advice from cities like Perris, which already has garnered accolades for its “Perris Green City Farm Program.” The project features a variety of crops like lettuce, kale, spinach, tomatoes and herbs cultivated in high-yield, low-irrigation systems. Perris City Manager Richard Belmudez and Assistant Director of Administrative Services Isabel Carlos answered questions from the Riverside group.
