Final Hike for 2017 - Lake Perris (Oct. 28th)

Fitness enthusiasts stroll along the picturesque shoreline of the Lake Perris State Recreation Area in February. A similar hike takes place Oct. 28 at Lake Perris.

The City’s final “Take a Hike” for 2017 takes off Oct. 28 from the Lake Perris State Recreation Area.

Check-in for the three-mile beach hike begins at 7:30 a.m.

The family-friend jaunt takes off at 8 a.m. and offers a beachside stroll along a beautiful sand beach. The route starts and ends at Sail Cove. The Lake Perris State Recreation Area is located at 17801 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, 92571.

Recreation Coordinator Josh Estrada said the hike continues the City’s ongoing Live Well Perris healthy-eating active-living campaign, which will continue with three more hikes in 2018.

“Our purpose is to promote family-friendly hikes and let people know there are a lot of activities for everyone in the City of Perris,” Estrada said. “We want to help families achieve their fitness goals.”

An earlier hike at Lake Perris attracted about 300 residents and out-of-town visitors and City representatives are expecting another strong turnout for the upcoming event. Following the upcoming hike, the City will raffle off a children’s bicycle and other fitness-related items.

Admission to the State Recreation is $5 per car but the entry fee for the first 30 vehicles has been covered by Perris Modern Dentistry.

Take a Hike 2018 kicks off early in the year. Those hikes include:

*Feb. 10: The Lake Perris State Recreation Area for a walk-on-the-beach excursion.

*March 17: Kabian Park, 3-mile scenic hike course.

*April 14: Lake Perris State Recreation Area, a 4-mile challenging hike to the summit of Terri Peak. More than 250 people participated in the same hike earlier this year.

Registration and sign-in for all hikes begins at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the event. Hiking begins at 8 a.m. Water will be provided at all hikes but participants are urged to bring their own as well.
