Crime Prevention

The Perris Police Department uses Crime Prevention programs to enhance community involvement in reducing crime. Your Crime Prevention Officer, Community Service Officer I (CSO) Gina Montenegro, works closely with deputies on patrol, the Special Enforcement Team (SET), volunteers, local business, schools, and the general public to prevent crime.

Programs which Perris Police department provides to the city of Perris consist of officer friendly visits to schools and Neighborhood Watch.  During the school visits, presentations are done to provide students with awareness in Stranger Danger and teach vital tips on what to do if encountered by specific stranger scenarios. A Ruff McGruff (the crime fighting dog) costume and Stranger Danger coloring books are provided to assist the officer in enforcing the importance of being alert. It generates enthusiasm for the children and imparts a lasting memory.  Drug education and personal safety presentations are also done at schools and churches when the community requests them.

Furthermore, the Perris Police Department supports Neighborhood Watch meetings, which are done in homes.  Perris Crime Prevention Officers teach residents how to identify suspicious activity in their neighborhoods and how to report it to the police. Officers give presentations on burglary prevention in these meetings and hand out Crime Prevention booklets on various topics.

CSO Gina Montenegro will be coming to your neighborhood, schools, and local shopping centers in the near future to help educate adults and children alike in crime prevention.  To start up a Neighborhood Watch program in your neighborhood, or if you are a school administrator interested in crime prevention presentations at your school, contact CSO Gina Montenegro at 951-210-1000 or gmontene@riversidesheriff.org
