Perris Welcomes Target with Groundbreaking Celebration at Plaza de Perris
PERRIS, Calif. (April 25, 2025) –– The City of Perris hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Target store on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, officially launching the highly anticipated retail development at Plaza de Perris. The project will bring one of the nation’s most iconic retailers to the city, delivering expanded shopping opportunities and new economic energy to the region.
In attendance at the ceremony were Perris Mayor Michael M. Vargas, Councilmember Malcolm Corona, City Manager Clara Miramontes, Assistant City Managers Ernie Reyna and Wendell Bugtai, Planning Commission Chair Dwayne Hammond, Planning Commissioner Elizabeth Jimenez, Perris Valley Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Sepulveda, Patrick Wood, CEO of Wood Investments Companies, Inc., Jorge Zavala representing 60th District Assemblymember Dr. Corey Jackson’s Office, and Adonis Galarza representing 31st District Senator Sabrina Cervantes’ Office, as well as city staff and community stakeholders.
"It’s amazing how often we find ourselves celebrating groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings—Perris is truly a city on the move," said Mayor Michael M. Vargas. "This is a joyous occasion, and our community is genuinely excited about what’s to come. I want to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Wood for his partnership. This project speaks volumes about the strength and promise of our community, and we are proud to see this project come to life."
"This is an exciting day, especially for the longtime residents of Perris who have been waiting and hoping for this project to become a reality," said Councilmember Malcolm Corona. "Over the years, there have been many proposed sites, but today marks real progress. It takes visionaries and committed investors to believe in our city and help us grow. We’re truly grateful to bring more options to our community and welcome a high-quality business like Target for our residents to enjoy."

"The City and community have been working for nearly a decade to bring this project to life. We’re grateful for the partnership with Wood Investments and the support of our City Council and Economic Development team, whose efforts helped make this vision a reality. This project is a major step forward for Perris, and we’re excited for what’s ahead."

Located at 1688 N Perris Blvd in the Plaza de Perris Shopping Center, the new Target will serve as a key anchor for continued development. Once completed, the store will enhance retail access, create job opportunities, and strengthen the city’s growing economic foundation.
