General Overview

The Office of Public Information is a division of the City Manager’s Office. The primary function of the office is to coordinate external communication between the City and residents. The Public Information Officer is responsible for news releases, media inquiries, social media management, community outreach, and general information management. The Office of Public Information works closely with the City Council, City departments, news media, the public, and other government agencies to support a more open, transparent, and accessible City government. It serves as the City’s official source for media-related inquiries and public information dissemination.

Public Records Retention

As part of its communication efforts, the Office of Public Information oversees the City’s official social media platforms to share timely information regarding City programs, services, events, and initiatives. Public comments, messages, reactions, and other interactions made on City social media channels may constitute public records and are subject to applicable public records retention laws. To support transparency and compliance, the City archives content and interactions published across official City social media accounts. By interacting with the City’s social media platforms, users acknowledge and agree to abide by the City’s Social Media Policy.
