In consideration of the California drought as well as the climate and atmospheric conditions in the City of Perris, the project features environmentally friendly and water-wise landscaping elements and growing systems.

These systems include raised garden beds, rolling garden towers, as well as modern growing mediums such as hydroponic and aeroponic gardening systems. The garden has installed several Aeroponic Vertical Tower systems with a vertical Farm-in-the-City design that lets urban farmers grow different types of produce within a 2.5' by 2.5' footprint. These modern produce growing technologies address traditional farming issues such as land space, water usage, plant disease, and soil degradation.

The Perris Green City Farm serves as a model to inspire and facilitate community engagement and nutrition education for a healthier lifestyle. Now that installation of the Perris Green City Farm is complete, subsequent phases will continue to engage the community. Planned phases include creating educational opportunities and implementing a marketplace cooperative to donate, trade or sell the harvest to local organizations.

“Yoga in the Garden” are free yoga classes offered to community members of all ages. Participants engage in a balance between physical activity and meditation. Participants will learn yoga postures and breathing techniques that will help their bodies become stronger, flexible, and stable. Yoga mats are provided by Grow Perris, but participants are also welcome to bring your own. Join us for a peaceful, relaxing and fun yoga session! All levels welcome!

Grow Perris offers FREE classes for anyone interested in learning ways to manage diabetes through healthy cooking and healthy eating. Participants learn how to properly read nutrition labels and the basics on how to manage diabetes. This bilingual class is presented by a registered dietitian through the Riverside Community Diabetes Collaborative. Join us for a fun and educational session!

Our Chef in the Garden series, led by Chef Lee Burton, provides a cooking demonstration that integrates healthy easy recipes and nutrition education. Chef Lee creates recipes that use in-season harvest directly from our community garden. After the class, residents are able to take produce from the garden to replicate the healthy recipes at home!

The Master in the Garden Workshops provide residents with the knowledge to create a home garden or to continue the care of an existing garden. Topics include: seasonal planting, organic gardening, natural pest control, food safety in gardens and much more!

Christine Lampe, a UCCE Master Gardener, facilitates the workshops and provides the necessary materials for the workshops. Don’t miss this great opportunity!
